Louise Larivière
While still in her teens, Louise Larivière left her native Québec to live in Europe. She spent nine years in England where she completed a degree in English literature while working as an actress, singer and songwriter. When she returned to Quebec, Larivière joined Concordia University's School of Community and Public Affairs. Upon graduation, she worked in various capacities for businesses in remote regions of Northern Quebec and Northern Ontario, and later in Nunavut. It was through this work that she realized the "north" deserved special attention, and so began organizing photo assignments and events to promote place an people who live there. Larivière was a pioneer in the use of photojournalism and documentary photography as a tool for serving communities. That led her to the production of large photo exhibits accessible to all. Since 1998, she has presented numerous major photo exhibits across Canada, including cities such as Québec, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto. Because of her curiosity, Louise Larivière chose a career path that has taken her around the world, to Argentina, Afghanistan, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and many parts of Europe and the United States.
