Gilbert Lachapelle was born in 1949. He first studied in Meteorology and then developed an interest in Audiovisual Technology, Cultural Information and Communication and received is Bachelor from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1974. Three years later, he founded the Coop Vidéo de Montréal. He worked on many productions as a soundman, cameraman and as a technical manager. He also directed many videos such as Parce que je t'aime... (1983), Tu me demandes Patrice... (1983), Du moment que j'aurais de la place pour mes couteaux (1982), C'est parce que je vois que c'est droit (1982), Peut-être que (1982), Alchimie de la vie quotidienne (1978) and L'Orfèvre (1978).
