A true athlete of movement, Sylvain Poirier began intensive training in artistic roller skating at the age of thirteen. He competed in the world championships in 1976. Since then, his passion for the body in movement has guided his life. Active on the contemporary dance scene in Montreal since 1984, he first demonstrated great abilities as a dancer in works by numerous contemporary choreographers. Today, Sylvain is co-artistic director with Yves St-Pierre and Sonya Stefan of the company bande interdite. Here he continues his exploration and creation of choreography. Since 2006 he has created La Poésie des Ailleurs, a great creative cycle on the impact of the environment on the writing and reception of a dance piece. He has also created dance numbers for more than 120 dance videos, the choreography of the solo Ici and the dramaturgy of the live show Sonya & Yves.
