Natascha Niederstrass
Natascha Niederstrass graduated from Concordia Univeristy with a BFA in the spring of 1997. She is currently completing a MFA in the New Media department at York University in Toronto. In 1996, she participated in a student exchange project between l'École des Arts Traditionnels de Meknes, Morocco, and the faculty of Fine Arts of Concordia University in Montreal. She has shown her work on several occasions, in solo exhibitions as well as group show and events such as Aquatic Gala (Articule), Ouverture officielle d'un espace à venir (Espace Vidéographe), Paysage Réinventé Percé organised by Champ Libre, and Les 17es Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois. She has extensively used mediums such as video, photography, sculpture, installation and performance. Her work essentially deals with the obscure notions of reality and tries to question our relationship with it. Through the creation of different mises en scènes she attempts to reveal the ambiguity of language, signs and cultural codes that we too often accept as reductive truths.
