Robert Mentov is a filmmaker and image-based artist originally from Eastern Europe and based in Toronto. Shooting skateboarding his whole life, he naturally gravitates to a grittier aesthetic, less rigid methodology and a collaborative working style while balancing his process between traditional and modern formats. In 2022 he participated in PlayLabs Films experimental workshop led by Apichatpong Weerasethakul that took place in the Peruvian jungle. His sensibilities revolve around existential questions of home, identity and universal themes of what humans need to feel a sense of belonging. Constantly seeking ways to challenge the process through varied perspectives, collaboration and execution, he has found his life’s work in filmmaking.
