Simone Lucas
Simone Lucas (she & they pronouns) is an interdisciplinary video artist, educator, and community activist of Jewish Ashkenazi descent, and a white settler based in Tio’tia:ke/Mooniyang (aka Montreal). Simone’s educational background integrates cultural studies and media production. They have an MA in Media Studies from Concordia University supported by scholarships from the FQRSC and SSHRC. Drawing playful associations between archives, imaginative reconstructions, and politically grounded research, Simone creates sensuous, contemplative stories using video installations, performance, and non-fiction video art. Her first film, I Think About You Every Day, is a self-portrait exploring friendship and intimacy by weaving personal correspondence, contemporary dance, and collaborative soundscapes. I Think About You Every Day has screened in local, national and international film festivals. Simone is a Part-Time Faculty at the Communications Studies Department at Concordia University. In order to hone their interactive media skills, they are currently pursuing a specialization in Virtual and Augmented Reality at Champlain College. Their current artistic research is on histories of fish preservation and memory-making in Jewish and co-territorial diasporas.
