Francisco Ruiz de Infante
An artist outside of any category and with an international career, Ruiz de Infante is a member of a generation whose sensibility has been marked by an encounter between audio-visual machines and the simplest, most everyday materials. Without complexes, he juggles high technology and emergency bricolage. His work draws on visual arts, literature, music and video, and over the past few years has for most often taken the form of audiovisual installations. These generally ephemeral works are the result of in situ production. They take shape formally for, around and in the space and setting which give rise to them. The concept of the viewer’s path or circuit through the work is predominant. Ruiz de Infante invents fragile architecture under construction, mid-way between a ruin and a construction site. He reconstructs the way in which memory functions when it feeds the present: in fits and starts, full of mistakes of information, or like a torrent of images which recommences without end.
