vidéo-club: Everything in Between
Everything in Between was screened on July 14th 2026, in the presence of Chris Mullington, as part of the vidéo-club series, a Vidéographe initiative in collaboration with Cinéma Moderne. Every three months, Vidéographe invites cinephiles and the cine-curious to an evening of screening and discussion around a program drawn from works in the collection. The program was curated by Siam Obregón and Joseph Rozenkopf, members of the Vidéographe team.
Joseph Rozenkopf graduated from the University of Montreal with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and from UQAM with a certificate in museology and art diffusion. At the crossroads of these two disciplines was born an interest in the operations of cultural institutions in Quebec and questions about their practices. It is with the discovery of artist-run centers and Vidéographe that he was able to begin his career within these institutions.
Siam Obregón is a Mexican filmmaker and visual artist. She completed her BFA with a Specialization in Film Production at Concordia University. Her work focuses on observation, intimacy, and themes of cultural identity. Her latest works have been featured in multiple festivals including HotDocs, Festival International du Film sur l’Art (FIFA), and REGARD.
List of works in program
The four films gathered in this program approach life and death as experiences that shape one another. They move through memory, humor, trauma, illness and encounters with the natural world, asking how we keep going in the face of loss and uncertainty.
In Is That All There Is?, Chris Mullington borrows Peggy Lee’s iconic song, pairing its existential refrain with brightly colored, lo-fi digital drawings of catastrophe to reflect on life’s absurdity. Alexandru Petru Badeliță’s i made you, i kill you confronts childhood abuse with brutal honesty, while also presenting a moving portrait of artistic exploration as a way of survival. Esther Valiquette’s Le récit d’A weaves together autobiographical fragments, memory, and reflection into an evocative meditation on illness and a generation marked by AIDS; driven by a fierce determination to embrace life until the very end. The program concludes with Ella Morton’s Crushed Between Ocean and Sky, where an unexpected event aboard a sailing trip to Antarctica becomes an opportunity to contemplate the fragility of life against the immensity of the natural world.
Despite their difficult subjects, these films are remarkably inventive in form. Through vibrant animation, collage, experimental techniques, they transform personal and collective experiences into visually striking works. Together, they acknowledge darkness without being defined by it, suggesting that grief and rupture are inseparable from human experience, but so are resilience, imagination, and – why not ? – beauty.
