Patrick Galipeau was born in Metz, France in 1960. He studied art history and film production before undertaking studies in studio art at the Université du Québec à Montréal. In 1990, he won the Best Director award at the Événement vidéo d'art, and the following year he won the Video Creation Award. He directed a short film, Il sogno di una cosa, in 1990.
