Born in 1942 in the Netherlands, Madelon Hooykaas worked in photography until 1964. From 1964 to 1969 she lived in Paris, London and New York, working in photography and film. Her collaboration with Elsa Stansfield began in 1972. She began making video-environments in collaboration with Stansfieldd in 1975, and since then, they have produced video-tapes, video-installations, video-sculptures an photo-sound objects. Their work is in many museum collections like MoMA, New York, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, National Gallery of Canada. They have shown their work in Montreal on many occasions.They also have been representing the Netherlands at Documenta 8 and the 4th Biennale of Sydney. In 2004, Elsa Stansfield died and since then Madelon is working with her own name. She lives in Amsterdam in the Netherlands where she is also a writer and filmmaker.
