Taravut is a collection of 5 videos produced by Inuit women artists living in Igloolik, a small village in the Baffin Island region. Qulliq, Ataguttaaluk Starvation, Aqtuqsi, Piujuq and Angutautuq and Unikausiq describe community life and traditions : a woman who survived starvation, traditional women's activities, dreams and childhood stories. They are signs of a learning process in video, particularly in relation to drawing and computer illustrations, a new means of expression the women wish to appropriate. These unique works, in the manner that they examine notions of heritage and identity in relation to a mediated reality, offer openess and accessibility to a socially diverse audience.
