"Few artists will have left as profound a mark on the Quebecois imagination and had as significant an impact on the Quebec landscape as the sculptor and installation artist Rose Drummond", stated composer Jean Derome. With his ensemble, he pays a heartfelt tribute to the prominent artist through a collection of ready-made and whimsical songs brought to life by reassembled 16mm family archives and filmed performances. Altered and elusive, the 16mm film itself appears to escape from the projector, and in response to the music, it raises questions about the truthfulness of its narrative. Comprising visual archives from the Drummond family – rare existing images of the artist – recent shots of artworks still visible along Quebec Highway 20, and filmed performances from Derome's concert in Rimouski in 2021, the film alternates between distinct visual aesthetics derived from the filmmaker's various physical and chemical explorations, accompanied by musical pieces from the Jean Derome’s album. More than only a tribute to Rose Drummond, the film becomes a homage to the intersection of arts through moving images : literature, land art, music, cinema.
