"My documentary is essentially a family portrait. I chose a typical family in the heart of the Massif Central region in France. I want to show the human and emotional consequences of the rural exodus. One must see and meet the last of France’s rural residents to understand the slow death of the French countryside."

Commentary by Claire Valade, Film critic from Quebec

This portrait of a more or less ordinary peasant family is an excellent example of cinéma du réel. With small, discreet touches and a respectful mode of observation, Une famille d'Auvergne beautifully and lucidly documents a way of life, a place, and a world that is slowly fading away.
