Après les glaciers
In the video In the Wake of Glaciers, scientific researcher and glaciologist Jean-Baptiste Bosson reflects on the protection of glaciers and glacial margins from an ecosystemic perspective, freed from an anthropocentric viewpoint. Last chapter in a trilogy on glaciers, the camera’s gaze unfolds on different alpine environments in Switzerland exposed to glacial retreat. Against the backdrop of macroscopic shots of air bubbles trapped in the ice, Bosson asserts that glaciers are becoming sensitive objects to better understand the history and behavior of the climate.
‘Bosson proposes to consider the ongoing thinning of glacial environments from the angle of the possibilities that are opening up with this loss. As they retreat, glaciers expose untrodden pockets of land that become potential case studies to witness processes of biocolonisation, sheltered from anthropic ubiquity.’
