LES VIDÉOGRAPHES: DEBUT WORKS

July 15, 2021 to August 30, 2021

Description

LES VIDÉOGRAPHES is a program created by Luc Bourdon in collaboration with Karine Boulanger, Denis Vaillancourt and the Vidéographe team.

Composed during the pandemic period, this project responds to the ultimate desire and need to gather in front of the big screen and see the video works of yesterday and today in the presence of the public and artists.

On November 28, 1971, Vidéographe officially opened its doors on rue Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Latin Quarter.

LES VIDÉOGRAPHES: DEBUT WORKS (1980-2010)

The Vidéographe collection is brimming over with debut works by artists and filmmakers who have enjoyed significant careers. This program is a chance to revisit the beginnings of some of the rising stars of their time : Robert Morin, Lorraine Dufour, Rodrigue Jean, Louis Bélanger, Bruno Baillargeon, Ricardo Trogi, Robin Aubert, Chloé Leriche, and Anne Émond.

In 2021, Vidéographe celebrates 50 years of commitment to the support and dissemination of video and experimental moving image practices. Still driven by the creative spirit of its founders, Vidéographe is planning a year of celebration that will bridge generations of artists, with an emphasis on creation, collaboration and the sharing of works from its collection.

Artist Luc Bourdon, in collaboration with the team at Vidéographe, has curated programs covering 50 years of videomaking. This anniversary project bears witness to the evolution of genres, practices, styles, subjects, opinions, and preoccupations of videomakers, video artists and those who have ventured into the making of a videographic work. The programs were curated according to themes and formal considerations rather than on a chronological basis. They of course include major works but also comprise gems that have remained relatively unknown despite their quality or significance. Three of those programs will be shown on Vithèque from July to November 2021, starting with Debut Works.

Debut Works was first shown at the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma in May, 2021.
