This medium-length video documentary reveals an important element of the Montreal cultural mosaic. Beyond the clichés and exotic images, Second Heimat Montreal displays the originality and the specificity of the German community of Montreal, a community which, for centuries now, has flourished in Canada. In accounts and scenes of their experience, German immigrants tell us of their life, their past, their hopes, their success or their difficulty in growing in the ethnic melting pot of Montreal. Their remarks are varied, emotional, sometimes contradictory and studded with fragments of their experience and memories. They shed light not only on their relationship to the city, its population and their mode of integration, but also on the reasons that set them  on the course of exile and that motivated them to contribute to the society and culture of a new country.
