Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au bon Dieu pour que ça arrive rien qu'à nous autres des affaires de même ?
This is a new and crucial look at the Citizens Commission of Inquiry into the War Measures Act held in 1971. The role of the Commission was to highlight the injustice committed against the 497 people who were incarcerated after the October Crisis in 1970. This video illustrates one of the objectives of the tribunal : to draw up an indictment against those responsible for the promulgation of the War Measures Act. Bernard Mergler, Charles Gagnon and Camille Laurin explain that political opportunism, the desire to crush the national liberation movement and the perpetuation of colonialism are the motivating forces behind the actions of the federal government.
NB: Only Yves Chaput, Gilbert Lachapelle and Yvan Patry were authorized to record these testimonies. The media was asked to leave.
