Rise and Fall of an Empire
Add to selectionDownload PDF

This work investigates aspects of youth culture and its inherent relationship to mass media and commercialization, as well as its posture and its effects on overt consumerism. It looks at the rise and fall of the punk/new wave scene, exploring the way it was incorporated into contemporary commercial applications. The medium of video/television lends itself well to this exploration of media culture, in the way media appropriates subcultural events, subverts their stance, objectifies the style and discards the issue.
