While German actor Kurt Raab was working on a video project with director Hanno Baethe, he learned that he was HIV positive. A short time later he was confined to a bed in Hamburg hospital, dependent on the help of others. With the assistance of Raab’s friend Hans Hirschmüller, documentation was compiled to supplement the video project : the work of an actor in retrospect, but also a man facing an imminent death. "...A testimony to his parting emerged : subjects as taboo as AIDS, death and the Catholicism of a gay person were the issues that were raised. The film editing confronts the viewer with the questions and expectations the actor Kurt Raab had of life before his illness and gives him Raab’s answers in view of his imminent death. Kurt Raab died in Hamburg on June 28, 1988". (Anke Oehme)
