An exposition of immigrant women's integration into a new society told through the perspective of Italian women in Québec. This video depicts the first years after immigration and how women are often forced to accept low-paying and unfulfilling work. According to the family model, the women’s values remain the same as in their culture; they are the wives and the housekeepers. But working outside the home awakens a need for emancipation. The women talk about their daughters and husbands, about virginity, the pill and divorce, giving the viewer a glimpse of the differences between generations and sexes. The children of immigrants are often caught between the new culture’s values and their parents’. It's only by the third generation that the integration process is completed.
