In northern BC, the Wetsu’et’en Nation refused access to their traditional lands to TransCanada’s Coastal GasLink’s pipeline builders (backed by the RCMP). The proposed pipeline would bring natural gas from Dawson Creek to Kitimat, 670km across the province. “The proposed pipelines are a threat to the watershed, as well as the plants, animals and communities that depend on them,” reads the website of the Unist’ot’en Camp. On February 17, 2020, solidarity marches across the country were led by Indigenous peoples.
