Retired workers from Sorel recount the various stages of their strike of 1937. Their goal was to obtain liberty, to change wage conditions, and negotiate a new contract. Neither the politicians nor the bosses wanted the contract to go through. The people of Sorel decided to change the city council, forming unions to fight against the control of the Simards over cheap labor. Under the union, the first wave of strikes in 1937 was dictated by the workers themselves, while the second in 1974 was presided over by union bosses. Archival footage and photography complete this interesting document where we see picket lines and processions in spirited song.
