"Las escaleras (The Staircase) begins with a shot of stone steps, an image that will recur regularly throughout the video. Concerned with the notion of wandering in a foreign landscape, I shot this video over the course of several visits to Mexico between 1996 and 1998. It is composed of images of murals, architectural details and other surfaces superimposed and accompanied by voices and ambient sounds, also recorded in Mexico."
