A Quarter Turn

A man walks through the landscape. Yet his feet remain fixed to the ground, and there is no landscape beyond his own body...

This project explores the notions of “motionless movement” and “body image” through specifically cinematic means. Through the rapid succession of still images presenting multiple points of view on the same subject, a static body repeating a simple sequence of gestures, a “polyscopic” vision of the human body emerges. In a continuous process of deconstruction and reconstruction, its visible parts, hands, arms and face reconfigure both the geometry of the space they inhabit and the body’s own physiognomy. In this sense, Au quart de tour can be understood as an experiment in cinematic Cubism.
