La rougeole

Created for video, this performance/installation takes an ironic and aesthetic approach to nationalism while depriving the phenomenon of its usual context. A nameless body, in physical relation to an installation placed in a sand pit, evokes the ridiculous and the tragic, nationalism’s all too frequent trademarks. The solitariness/loneliness of the character is juxtaposed to a social dimension evoked in the soudtrack. Images suggest puns: "drapeau" (flag), for instance, becomes "drap" (sheet) and "peau" (skin), which underline the reciprocal sublimations between the private and the social body.
