Les engrais du St-Laurent
This video was produced by striking workers in the 1975 strike at the Engrais du St-Laurent (St. Laurent Fertilizers) in Valleyfield. The workers ask that the aim of the documentary was to show the importance of organization and solidarity in a strike. The document exposes the workers’ struggle with Noranda (a multinational company) and the poor working conditions due to sulfuric acid emissions, the dirtiness and a very high production rate. The video also takes a pedagogial turn, explaining the procedures for working with local, national and international unions and outlining historical solidarity with other struggles.
