To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of Pierre Falardeau (1946-2009), Vidéographe has made his video anthology Falardeau\Poulin - À force de courage available online.
Pierre Falardeau started out at Vidéographe in the early 1970s. After making his first solo creation, Continuons le combat, about the mythology of wrestling, he teamed up with a college friend, Julien Poulin, to make a series of rebellious and socially engaged works that addressed the war in Algeria (À force de courage), police training (Le magra), contemporary art (Les Canadiens sont là), and, of course, contemporary Quebec (Speak White, Pea Soup, À mort). These videos have stood the test of time and shed an exceptional light on the videomakers’ ideas and aesthetics.
“Between the former anthropology student fascinated by the power of the image (Falardeau) and the debutant actor captivated by the possibilities of sound (Poulin), the material for a body of work rooted in social observation, political condemnation and the struggle for independence was swiftly woven.” - Georges Privet
