An English woman sets up home in Victoria. She finds a job as a guide in a house which is an exact replica of the residence of Shakespeare's wife. Wearing sumptuous period costume, she is the dignified incarnation of Elizabethan England. In the evenings, far from the splendor and theater of the day, she returns to her modest apartment, where she hears news of the latest layoffs on TV.
