HUMUS (multiplexing)

Multiplexing is a method of combining multiple analog or digital signals into a single signal that can be transmitted over a shared communication channel, allowing several streams of information to use the same resource. The process originated in telegraphy in the 1870s and is now widely used in telecommunications and computer networks. At the receiving end, demultiplexing separates the combined signal back into its original channels. In video editing and processing, multiplexing refers specifically to interleaving audio and video into a single coherent data stream.
