Joe Lemieux and Monique Tremblay are about to be fired because they are alcoholics. One day, without noticing, they crossed the fine line between having a beer once in a while and being drunk every day. One million Canadian workers have alcohol problems and act dishonnestly concerning this in order to avoid addressing personal problems. Alcoholism in the workplace is a professional disease, and it is time that it be considered as such, particularly by employers and unions. Just as people who suffer from other illnesses caused by work conditions, alcoholics have the right to be defended, treated and healed. It is urgent to renew the debate surrounding work relations which still consider it a problem and a shameful disease.
