Faced with underemployment in their village and exasperated with the attitude of the provincial government and the forestry companies, the inhabitants of Cabano decide to pool their resources to build a cardboard factory. The forest companies have been exploiting both the workers and the forests, and the Liberal government has not kept its promise to build a wood processing plant. The willingness of the citizens of Cabano to finance the cardboard factory by risking their own savings is understood as a gesture of solidarity and is imitated throughout Québec. It has allowed the region to flourish and has provided employment for young people.
